Too funny,
I had the same mysterious noise, went to a dealer, he replaced mine. Read 400+ stories on the forum about bear issues and optional bearings from other subaru's, and was told by another member that you can put in another bearing. But I have not seen any proof...yet.
As for Canada, Apparently Subaru of Canada has recognised the bearing issue and has compensated owners under warrantee. I have no other info on how.
My bearing was done in the US, so I just paid for the bearing swap, no hub, but I know my car has hubs as part of the previous bearing repairs.
And I have not followed up with SKF on the bearing recently, as I do not have a bearing to give them. If I can get all the specs of the bearing, then we may get somewhere.
James, do you have a spare bearing? Or did you swap out your bearing yet? I know you've got the HubTamer coming. so If you have your new bearing in hand, maybe we could do some measurements?
