You said it came from the front of the car on the passenger side - which is where the A/C compressor and its drive belt are located. My wife's old 240SX had a loose A/C belt and it would squeal at times when you stepped on the gas.

Pretty sure it is the cv though. I've had a couple of people ride in the car this weekend and we all came to the same conclusion. Now I just need to order some parts so I can do it next weekend.
