Hmm.. I think that's non-sense. I replaced the back struts on my legacy wagon, after a few years of hauling lots of stuff in the back. It had around 200,000 on it.

Also, when I got my Pearl, the front struts and mounts were completely shot, I mean, I did not want to drive it anywhere and the front tires were totally scalloped and cupped, it was scary.

It's usually easy to tell when your struts are bad, You'll get a nice rattle when you go over a bump as the spring rebounds. Also, look closely at them and see if you can see where any oil may have leaked out.
