Mine went out but came back on when I hit it hard. That told me that the led wasn't out, just a cold solder joint. I replaced it w/ a pioneer unit after it eat a brand new cd.
I had to take it apart to get my new, never listened to cd out. I am much happier w/o it now anyway. Looks like this is a good reason to upgrade.
