The dying issue could be a disconnected vacuum hose or a bad IAC valve. Certainly other possibilities as well. Make sure the charging system is fully functional. That kind of goes without saying.
Is the ABS light on?
It's hard to put a value on it without pics or a complete description. Also, you're location can play a part in value as well.
