You can 'clip' the frame and use the center section of the chevelle. Just use the front section of frame from the S-10.. We cut the frames on old stuff and put chevelle clips under anything from the 30's or 40's. It would solve the front wheel drive prob, without making it too high.

I have an 80 Aspen clip under my 47, have put the 67 chevelle under a 48 chevy coupe, and a trans am clip under a 48 chevy sedan delivery, all have been ont the road for 18 years or more, and work fine!
