In addition to the ATF/temperature light being used instead of the power light, the 96 and 97 models do not have a shift lock button.

http://svx-iw.com/ and repeated several times in the forum work if the gear selector is moved to 'R' between steps 3 and 4. Other positions, except park, may also work, but I didn't try them.
