In my own experience, I have never replaced my front wheel bearings, but have replaced the rear wheel bearings twice since I've owned my car for 8 years now.
See the "How-To Documents" for help. I bought the bearings, inner seals and outer seals from subaruparts.com., removed the shipping grease completely and then tightly repacked them myself with the synthetic grease before I took them to my mechanic for installation. I wanted to make sure that important step gets done right.
