CD Repair possibility
I experienced same symptoms, removed unit, removed top and lower covers- the disc pressure plate had disengaged from mechanism that positions CD. It's about one inch in Diameter, has 3 spring clips and can be replaced without too much effort. Now I never leave a CD in my player if the cover is closed so I don't have to do this trick anymore.
