Seems to me, this would be like taking pain killers {just hiding the problem}.

The shift jerk can be removed by adjusting the transmission band, hardly any mechanics ever look at this since the adjustment is done once and left until the next transmission rebuild to adjust. There is an adjusting screw on the side of the transmission and instructions in the service manual. The screw adjusts the amount of "slack" in the band and therefore the take up time. Generally nobody ever notices the slack increasing or that you can
adjust it. This generally applies to all auto transmissions, except ones
like the Mini-matic 4 speed auto, manually selectable or full auto, of 1964
