oil starvation/bearing failure

I just lost my engine to oil starvation. Crank and rods are junk. Maybe the heads can be saved.
There are tiny flecks of orange/red shiny material around the filter which may be from the non-aerobic sealer that I used on the cam cover gaskets. In the interest of making sure there were no oil leaks, I may have overdone the sealer the last time the engine was assembled.
What sealer have you other engine builders used with success?
What is the oil filter # for the larger filter that I think fits some model of Porsche?

Any ideas on the cause of this are welcome. I don't want to do this twice.

Mike
