Thanks for all the recommendations guys.

The hard drive has physically wreaked (head crash) The machine is a wrecked IBM thinkpad with another thinkpad contributing parts (backlight ballast, spare hard drive, etc)
I just thought you guys would get a kick, Its already up and running, the whole machine is contained in the frame, I wanted somthing that would look good on my desk. It rocks, and looks great with my brushed alunminum keyboard and mouse.

ANd just for reference, an unmountable boot voulme error will not be rectafied with safe mode, it occurs before windows boots at all.
