Surely in view of your qualified experience you must have an existing theory to back such a definite statement in order to make it viable and be accepted against that proposed by Phil. ?

However I do agree that detective work is the order of the day.

Edit P.S. N.B. The original post described "dripping fire". Surely this indicates a less volatile liquid than petrol. With the car in motion and the added supply of oxygen, coupled with degree heat possible from two metal surfaces in a high level of friction and surface speed, diff oil is a feasible combustible. I am old enough to remember the principals involved in makeshift waste oil heaters, as constructed by soldiers during wartime.
