10:1 is merly watery
14.7:1 is very thin, highpitched with minimal power

In the post I deleted I described a a rich (10.0 - 11.0) as a 'muffled, metaliic-like sound in a tunnel. Lean I described metallic-like sound that is not muffled or contained. I didn't want to sound like an idiot...but there it is. Richer muffles the sound and seems to make the car drive smoother. Leaner is more chaotic and feel/sounds like something is about to go wrong. Best I can describe it.
I can tell rich/lean conditions better with an EGT gauge than an actual rich/lean air/fuel ratio gauge. You may actually want to run leaner with higher octane or richer with lower octane, depending on what works for your ride.
