I had a similar close call a couple of months ago. I went out in the morning and there were pieces of a 2 inch diameter branch off a Birch scattered around the car. The branch fell about 15 feet hit the hood and the windshield on impact. The hood got dented but was already mangled from hitting a deer and getting bonked by a golf ball while driving past the local course.
The lucky part was the end which hit the windshield broke the wiper blade and bent the wiper arm flat against the windshield. It absorbed the impact and the glass didn't brake. A broken windshield would have meant the end of the road for the '92.
