Where did you get that 0.2 V figure?

If you go back and read the test results again over the years, you will see the go the figures go down over the years, due to aging wiring with corrosion and increased resistance, and go backup after the wiring mod, and up even more once a new battery was installed.

How old is your battery? That is also a major factor.

Wiring is the most important part of the modification. I just happened to be using a new high-out alternator at the time and developed a cleaner, simplified look by removing unnecessary wires

Before this, the 3-wire upgrade was done all the time of increase current flow, using the stock alternator. In fact, I did 3 of the original alternator wiring upgrades in the same day at the 10th Anniversary Meet in Lafayette back in 2002.

That was the simplified one of adding only 3 wires. No fuse, no cutting or removing anything, just adding additional wires to improve current flow. In the early days of the mod, members would pick up around 2V more than before. lights were brighter, started more quickly, etc. New wires, fresh secure connections and better grounds make a lot of difference.

That original mod, with detailed instructions and photos, can be found HERE

POS 4 gauge from alternator post to Battery positive
NEG 4 gauge from battery negative to engine
NEG 4 gauge from battery neg to frame ground

For a better understanding of some of this read the Alternator 101 article HERE
