Re: Water/Condensation in trunk/tail lights

Check out this thread HERE

Could either be the sunroof drains coming loose at the inner panel of the trunk or the tail light gaskets. The two gaskets that usually contribute to the condensation/leaking problem are the 84940PA001 (part 8). If they are bad they let water get behind the gasket (where it meets the body) and down into the spare tire well.

When you get new ones, but some grease around the back of the gasket (where it meets the body) before you install them. Do not tighten them up too much, just snug. Tightening them up too much causes the tail lights to damage the gasket by acting as a "cookie cutter" and putting a hole in the gasket.

I have also applied a bead of RTV silicone between the gap where the black plastic part of the tail light assembly meets the body. This way, water flowing around the trunk lid channel just flows out over the tail light and not down into that gap. No water in my trunk and I have never had condensation issues.

Which lights have condensation? If your center light panel in your trunk lid does not have condensation, just leave it alone; it is not a contributing factor to water in the trunk.

This is the link to the sunroof drainage diagram. Hope some of this helps.
