Hey John. I really hope its not, but it sounds remarkably similar to my problem. If it won't do it in neutral, then that is scary. I don't think anything was broken, I think it just wore out. My mechanic said the oil in it looked all wrong, like the previous owner might have put ATF in diff by accident. Mine went from no sound at all to very bad sound in a couple weeks. It sounded like a bearing or rotor/pad problem, but I wasn't so lucky. Good Luck.
