I was working on a friend's Eclipse today. We have a bag of about thirty bushings to replace on the car, so we decided to start with the front suspension today. Oddly enough, a number of bolts came off pretty easily. I didn't really want to use a fork to separate the ball joints from the knuckle, because they're integral to the control arms and can't be replaced separately, so I figured I'd pull the axles so I could get a puller in.
The axles won't come out. No, really. The nuts came off without much fight at all, but the axles
will not come out of the hubs. I tried heating them, I tried a puller and I tried whacking them with a hammer. That last one damaged the shaft - now I need a new axle. Great.
Of course, it's still in the car.
Any ideas?
