The same method applies to any circuit you check. The solenoid trigger circuit is the same as any other, one lead at the battery and move the other lead to each point in the circuit.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER:

Voltage drops can only be performed on LIVE circuits!

USE good sense and safety practices at all times. Just because the starter isn't working now doesn't mean it can't decide to at any given instant, mashing or tearing fingers or limbs loose, etc. No rings, necklaces or jewelry while working, especially on electrics or around moving or potentially moving parts.
