no need to remove the compressor, just the belt will do. The only thing on that belt is the A/C. The other belt handles steering and Alternator.

sorry about the problem. most frequent cause is not flushing the old "stuff" out. I think some combinations of old/new can lead to "black death" - or compressor seizure.
