glucosamine and chondrioitin appear to provide pain relief, perhaps slowing the disease process of osteoarthritis. glucosamine apparently stimulates cartilage cells to manufacture proteoglycans while chondroitin may inhibit enzymes that break down cartilage. recent research has examined only the short-term effects of these compounds.
