I just wanted to point out something interesting from your post. I think the general perception from other countries is that agencies like the police are consistent acros the country. But there is no agency called the 'US Police.' True, we have federal law enforcement agencies, but the grunt work like that discussed in this thread is handled at the state, county or municipal level.

And those thousands of jurisdictions are all very separate entities. This is a big damned country, and there are different laws, ordinances and policies everywhere.

I'm sure you understand all this, Andy, but I thought your use of the term 'US Police' highlighted a perception I see from people around the world.

Besides, most of those police chase videos you'll see are from California (specifically LA), which is going to sink into the Pacific anyway - so don't hold it against us.
