Update:

The original mechanic says he'll do the labour, I pay for parts. I think it still gets sent out to CV/steering guy to do. That bit I like, since he's a specialist.

The bit I don't like is that labour was only a bit over 20% of the original quote. Oh, and the price quoted for the hose will be the same - these Enzed dudes manufacture fittings if needed, as well. Got a quote directly from them today and it was the same.

Still chasing up SVX rebuild man - he was out of town today - to see if he has a rack in good condition.

I think the mechanic is being fair - he didn't make the parts wear out. At the same time its gonna hurt and I'd have offered a bit less for the car if I knew there was major work to be done.

Oh well, still think she's gorgeous and adore her.
