It could have came from a breather hose but it could also be from the steering system or one of the transmission lines.

It's oozing out from the seal where the front pipe joins the gearbox. I drained out a cupfull of fluid and now doesn't leak at idle. But it is still leaking when driven.

I find the trans dipstick useless, it always has fluid smeared along the whole length - impossible to read the level. I always try to measure the amount that I drain out and put approximately the same amount back in. It normally takes about 5 litres (which means there is another 4L of dirty fluid still in the trans somewhere!). I might drain a little more out and if that doesn't work then I'll change the seal.
