Doug - this sentence confused me for a moment, I didn't get why you were throwing garbage out of someone else's car onto your own lawn. And then you had the nerve to be mad about it? Sheesh! 
I figured out what you really meant from the context though. That is a sad story. But at least you had a really good comeback for him!
