My silly dog had a problem...

I questioned if I was being a good 'steward' for my animal when he had problems that were beyond Vet Science, or beyond my ability to pay.
I said that I would keep him as happy as possible for as long as possible and recieved many 'opinions' that reflected my own.
Last week, Louie woke up Friday with an abcess on his face that pushed his eye closed. He has had trouble with steps for 2 years. Going 'up'. Last week, he started falling when he tried to go down.

I gave him the best day that I could on saturday. I cut him loose on acres of ground, took him to the creek for a cool refreshing drink, sat and petted him for 1/2 hour, then I had him put down.
I cried then, I cried again today. He was my 'Pal'! I knew that his 'quality of life' had declined. I knew what was expected of me as a 'good steward' of my animal. I Miss my animal.
10 years, I took him out to p every morning. I would stop at Wendy's and buy him Chicken Nuggets, then have the wife cook OUR dinner. (Did not float well with wife)
Louie was something else. 6#'s of 'fury'! I brought that butt head home in my shirt pocket. I paid $50. and 1/2 pack of cigarettes for that little mixed breed phycho-dog. The most I have ever spent on an animal that I didn't buy to EAT.
I don't regret my purchase. He was a good 'friend'. I just wish his health would have allowed him to stick around for a few more years.
