As I understand it, while traveling at a constant speed the car only diverts 10% of the torque to the rear wheels. As soon as any number of variables change, though, the TCU starts putting pressure on the transfer clutch and diverting more pwoer to the rear. My point was that is should do this instantaneously without the front wheels slipping first. The 'RealTime 4WD' set up on the CR-V does work like that, though. I hate it, but find it funny that Honda's AWD works like Subaru's when it's broken.
