If I remember correctly you're using some other type of subaru transmission (not svx transmission). Make sure you are using the correct input shaft to match your torque convter too. Not all subaru's use the same torque converter and input shaft. The input shaft installs into the transmission before you install the torque converter. When it is fully seated the o-ring is very close to the outer splined shaft.

During installation there are 3 things which much spline together. The two notches in the pump driveshaft spline with the two tabs of the pump rotor. The splines on the solid outer shaft spline into the stator of the torque converter. The splines on the input shaft spline into the turbine of the torque converter. For some reason people have difficulty getting this right. Putting the transmission in with it wrong always results in breaking the pump.
