...what kind of modification is needed ?...the things are so small to begin with i can't see being able to mess with them much.

Depending on which switch they are installed in, they may need to be shortened. I just used a small flat file and took a mm or two off the end. Also, for some I had to remove a small bit of plastic from the twist lock tabs to allow the bulb to slide straight into the socket before twisting.
