The following pictures show my setup:
1) Stuck a needle into the white wire and hooked up my voltmeter per instructions
2) I loosened the two screws on the TPS
3) Set the volt meter on the 20K ohm setting
4) Turned ignition to "on"
5) Turned on voltmeter and got my initial readings
6) I adjusted the TPS and tightened the screws until I got as close to 5.00 Vdc as possible
Observations: The TPS would hum at different resistances above 5500...is that normal? Also once I reached 4.97 and turned the meter off, the hum began again and I tapped the TPS and the hum went away
If this is a correct setup perhaps we can post it in the How-To section?

First the setting is 0.5VDC, second it may be a typo but the meter should be set on the DCVolt setting not the Ohm setting.
The hum could be the meter reading a voltage on the Ohm setting.
With the connections that you have, red connected to the white wire, black connected to ground, set to 0.5Volts.
