Are you sure your AWD is working. When my RWD was not engaging, the car would loop on me at a moments notice on snow, very dangerous to say the least.
I have a '97 Outback and it's superior in the snow also.

all our spedos seem to be 2-3 mph faster than we are going at 60 so no problem there.
