Is the starter motor pre-engaged type on the SVX ?? If yes then sounds like the pilot solenoid is not switching the starter motor on.

What should happen when you turn the key is the pilot solenoid pushes the starter pinion onto the ring gear of the torque convertor or flywheel, and makes a switch to complete the circuit to run the starter motor. If the solenoid doesn't throw the pinion far enough to engage the switch, or the switch has failed you get the click of the pilot solenoid but no rotation.

When you say the lights dim do you mean slightly or do they almost extingush ?? If slight dim then they could be the solenoid drawing a bit more current in an attempt to make full travel. If they dim a lot, could be the starter motor is trying to turn but is prevented from doing so for some reason, like a worn or tight bearing ??

Starter *looks* easy to get to, and should be easy to change, maybe a service exchange part is available at resonable cost !!
