Amazingly, I bought a Radio Shack Digitraveler for 99.99 last year. I hook it to my notebook computer and it does a stellar job. The receiver is a bit large (looks like the enterprise with the battle bridge disengaged). The lead is serial to, what looks like a network connector (larger than RJ12 phone jack). The lead is also long enough to sit the receiver in the rear window, thus, forgoeing the poor reception in the front windshield.

The unit came with the DeLorme Street Atlas Software. At the time (I don't think they make them anymore -- one more "orphan" product I own [SVX, IBM TransNote, Diamond Mako and DigiTraveler], they were available for PC or PDA.

Darn! I just did a search for this product and it looks like they were selling them at about 30 bucks, clearance priced back in September. If you can find one (exclusively at Radio Shack) this is one heck of a deal for an excellent GPS receiver. Cables are available for all sorts of applications and the unit works with either the PDA or PC. The secret is to buy the PDA version since it has both PDA and PC software, then buy the cables for your PC and your PDA (if the PDA package doesn't have the right cable for your particular PDA. If I can find one at that price for PDA, I'm gonna snag it for future use. The software is worth more than 30 bucks!
