this is the infamous problem we refer to as "tranny flare"

Mine started at 100k and with the resistor unplugged the tranny lasted another 50k. Had I known enough to do a brake band adjustment on that one it might still be running.

Had the flare on the wife's tranny back in march - adjusted brake band and haven't had it since.
