I've never removed the diff case from the gearbox case, but I have removed the extension housing, and it was pretty well stuck on there. In the case I used a gear puller, but you'd need a pretty huge one to pull off the diff case that way.
Anyway, if it's anything like the extension housing, it's just glued on there and is goign to require some force. But I'd have to admit that I don't know that for sure. Do you have the FSMs?
