I have a very low pressure - pressure washer. It will not damage hoses or belts. I usually cover the alternator with a grocery bag to keep heavy spray off of it. I spray a degreaser on the heavy greasy areas if there are any and let it soak for a while. I use hot water with the pressure washer and then spray everything which takes most of it off. I then repeat on the bad areas again. It usually does a great job removing all of the oil or grease in the whole engine bay. I then wipe everything down and use back to black on the hoses and black parts. I usually wax all of the painted surfaces.
