I remember a guy posting instructions on how to build a FreeBSD based MP3 player back in 98. it included a scrolling LED display that listed title/artist, time, etc.
The best part was he had the wireless netowrk card (only 1.5Mb at that time) in it so he could mount his car from his computer in the house and upload more music.
