That would cause excessive wear to the transfer clutch, but not the rest of the transmission. It could be argued that the transfer clutch could have slipped enough to overheat the transmission, damaging it and causing it to slip, but I think that's really unlikely.

What gets me is the contention that it 'only slips occasionally' - as if that tells the buyer that it's 'only a little bad.' No, numbnuts, it tells us the damage is already done and the thing's probably on it's last legs.
