Ahhh, I get it. I didn't realize that the machine actually logs that stuff - I thought it just read it from the computer's own data logging.
Modern cars now use a type of logging similar to airliners' 'black boxes.' In the case of an accident, the data can be read to show what the driver was doing a few seconds before impact - thus corroborating (or not) the driver's story.
Aircraft 'black boxes,' of course, record quite a bit of info over a long time. Automobiles only record the last few seconds.
Most people actually aren't aware that their cars are recording that stuff, and are getting nailed in court.
'I was stopped at the red light, just like I was supposed to be.'
