Power Mode.

The way the power mode works, is the Tcu looks at the TPS to tell how much load is applied to the engine. This affects what gear change map, the Tcu uses for the changes. Changes at a lower road speed on light throttle, higher road speed on full throttle. For power mode, the Tcu looks at how fast the signal on the TPS line changes, if it exceeds a certain rate, it will use the Power Mode map.

For the Power Mode to engage, the voltage on the TPS line has to rise quickly, to a higher voltage. This can happen if the carbon track on the TPS has a break in it, or a spot that has worn out. When the wiper gets to this spot, the voltage rises due to the open circuit, and Power Mode is engaged. This can also be due to the TPS line to the Tcu going open circuit.

The TPS line going high will also cause the AWD to bind on light throttle turns.
