A lot of times the outer joint is difficult, if not impossible, to remove from the shaft. In that case you'll need to remove the inner joint from the shaft and re-boot the outer joint from that direction. The hard part then becomes cleaning the gravel out of the joint.

I think the axle nut is 32mm, it may vary as some replacement axles may come with different size nuts. There is usually only three possibilities: 30, 32 or 36mm.

Axle costs vary, check around your area. Anything below $100 is fair game, as long as it's a good part.
