You'll find that the belt molding is old and stiff and allowing debris to pass it and get on those felt guys and cause the scratching. At least, I did.
I fixed this issue by acting as though the car has no operational windows years ago, those scratches bug the *&^% outta me and make me want to bust out the windows so I don't have to see them.
(I've replaced the guides twice)
