I can't help but look on in horror at all the SVX rust. I left Pennsylvania for the West in '90 looking for the land of rust-free cars, especially a '68 Firebird. I had a VW with over a gallon of Bondo on it. It's been sitting since '94, now stripped of parts and hardly any new rust on it. Had it stayed in Pennsylvania, the Bondo would be all that'd be left of it. Bought my SVX this summer. It's from Idaho. ZERO rust. I still have nightmares about the rust belt, though.
I remember it being really hard to keep rust from coming back even after a good repair job.
If the paint job price goes too high, consider picking up a rust-free body out West since these cars are getting cheap. If you can haul a car, you can haul a load of antiques to the West, sell those to pay for the trip, then load up your rust free SVX. (Just in case you were hard up for an adventure.
