im not exactly sure as to the theory of operation with the a/c but how is the cooling system hooked in with the air con system

there is a coolant temp sensor that the AC diagnostics system reads from (located near the heater core according to the tecdoc) that will shut down the compressor as a protective measure when the coolant temp is too high.
