I have read reports that say they GIVE police departments radar and laser guns. All in the name of safetly of course.
I think I first read about it in Car & Driver. Here's a site that mentions how much they give:

This site reports that Geico was planning on not insuring people who have radar detectors (they were stopped by state officials):

I'm sure other insurance companies also dontate money to law enforcement to buy radar guns, but Geico is the worst offender.
If I ever find out Allstate does it too, I'll drop them so fast.
