Convert to a manual transmission and the swap from AWD to RWD is as simple as swapping out the center diff with a spooled collar.

I was RWD in my Legacy Turbo for a while. It's absolutely ridiculous how easily a high-power Subaru will destroy any resemblance of traction when RWD.

Note: If you have a blown ring and pinion, even being RWD will still turn the front differential. Unless you disassemble your axles and ONLY run the outer cups, you will have to leave the axles in the transmission which will cause the front diff to spin at road speed. The outer cups and axle nuts are what hold the wheel bearing together. If you leave the axles connected, gear bits will still fly every which way inside the transmission. With the automatic, since the front differential is seperate from the rest of the transmission, there is less chance of damage to the rest of the transmission from having the front diff pieces floating up front, but it's still not a good idea.

If I were you, I'd consider swapping the trans for a known good unit.
