Loss of 2nd gear normally indicates a need to adjust the brake band. Loss of 4th indicates the same problem has become more severe. As long as you did not drive too hard while it was slipping, a simple adjustment could fix it.

Yes Matt is right. Untill you get the band adjusted, don't drive in the D position. Use the shift lever to start in 1st position, then move it to 3rd position. This will stop the band from slipping till you get it done.
