That's a very interesting point to ponder.

In the Japanese ones, even though the car can be driven with Power mode shift map on all the time, the aircon still works and the compressor does its job.

The ECU [rather than the TCU] controls the aircon pump and turns off the compressor when the car is accelerating hard.

So it is probably the case that the ECU turns off the compressor at or near WOT conditions based on preset parameters in the software. It is a coincidence that in the models with Power mode available only on demand that green light/Power mode cuts in for the same WOT conditions as turns off the A/C compressor.
