Let me add my 2 cents to this subject.
IMHO, the SVX was not Subaru's Viet Nam. It was Subaru's Edsel.
It did not become a joke like the Edsel. It became something much worse. It was completely ignored by the public. To Subaru being ignored is worse than a slap in the face. SOA is a sales organization. It is not like a conventional car manufacturer. It was founded by two furniture salesmen from Philadelphia. All Subaru does is market the cars that FHI makes. FHI is more like a traditional car manufacturer. That is why the SVX gets more support in Japan. SOA wants to forget the fiasco and we keep reminding them of it.
